Miami University is proud to offer a variety of benefits including health, dental and vision plans; life and accidental death insurance; and supplemental voluntary benefits. Employees who are hired to work at least nine months per year and at least 32 hours per week become eligible for benefits the first of the month following their first day of employment or immediately if the first day of work is the first day of the month. Coverage is also available for the employee’s children up to age 26, and spouse or same-sex domestic partner. Verification of dependents (PDF 956KB) is required (birth certificate, marriage license, spouse/partner certification,etc.).
You may make changes to your coverage only during open enrollment in October for the following calendar year or when you experience a qualifying event.
Health Plan: Miami offers two health plan options. You choose the plan that is best for you and your family. Option 1 is the Miami Traditional PPO and Option 2, the High Deductible Health Plan with a Health Savings Account. Both plans include pharmacy coverage.
Dental Plan: Miami offers two levels of dental coverage. The Basic Plan with a $1000 annual per person limit and the Enhanced Plan with a $1500 annual per person limit. Both plans cover preventive services twice per year at 100%.
Vision Plan: Through VSP Vision Care, Miami offers employees coverage for annual eye exams, glasses, and contacts and discounts for prescription sunglasses and specialty lenses.
Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance: Miami provides basic life insurance coverage in the amount of 2 times your annual salary at no cost. Additional term life insurance may be purchased in an amount up to 5 times your annual salary. You may also purchase limited coverage for your spouse/SSDP and children. Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage in the case of accidental death or serious injury is also provided at no cost in the amount of 2 times your annual salary, with the option of purchasing additional coverage up to ten times your annual salary for you and your family.
Long Term Disability: Long Term Disability insurance is also provided at no cost by Miami University. The benefit is effective after you have been off work for 180 days due to an illness or injury. LTD is a salary replacement plan that will pay out up to 50% of your salary to a monthly maximum of $5000. The minimum monthly benefit is $100.
