Financial
aid
Most of our students receive graduate assistantships, which
provide remission of instructional and out-of-state fees,
eligibility for summer scholarships ($1,800), and a stipend of $13,000 (2009-10 academic year). Responsibilities
usually involve teaching two discussion sections of an
introductory history course each semester, but may involve grading or
research assistance. Once granted aid, students normally
continue to hold an assistantship for the maximum allowable
amount of time (two years for the Master's). Students interested in gaining archival
experience may apply for an archival assistantship provided
by the university libraries. Entering students
who hold the M.L.S. degree are eligible for graduate assistantships
in the university libraries. A few selected students may
be admitted without university financial aid, particularly
if some other source of funding exists. Grants-in-aid, consisting
of tuition waiver alone, are also available from the graduate
school for fulltime students.
Some
funds are available for research and conference travel.
The
deadline for application with financial aid is January 10.
