Miami
and its setting
Nestled among the picturesque rolling hills of southwest
Ohio, the college town of Oxford is located 35 miles north
of Cincinnati, with its urban attractions and resources,
including a major international airport. Dayton and Columbus
are slightly farther away. Miami University, with 16,000
students, makes Oxford a cultural center for the region,
with performing arts series and major speakers. Recreational
opportunities abound, whether on campus at Miami's world-class
Recreational Sports Center, or at the nearby Hueston Woods
State Park.
Housing
in Oxford is reasonably priced. The university has limited
on-campus apartment-style housing for graduate students.
The university's Office of Student Housing (513-529-5000)
has information regarding on-campus living. Off-campus housing
is available in Oxford for the academic year, as long as
the necessary arrangements are made by early summer.
To learn
more about graduate study in history at Miami, contact the
Director of Graduate
Studies. We encourage prospective students to visit
the campus and meet with faculty and current students. Visitors
should contact the department and individual faculty members
well in advance of arrival to make maximum use of their
time in Oxford. Some funding is also available to prospective
students to help defray the cost of visiting the campus.
