The collapse
of the Soviet Empire and the end of the Cold War invited a reexamination
of the relationships between Russia and the United States. Organized and
sponsored by The Hand Print Workshop International, a non-profit studio
for international exchange and collaboration through printmaking, this
exhibition addresses the issue of cultural identity in Russian and American
Art. The screenprint works in this exhibition, based on the artist’s
conceptual ideas in collaboration with the HPWI studio director and master
printer, tell the artists’ individual stories about who they are
and how they see themselves and their own society today, while also challenging
the potential of screenprinting today.
