Celebrating the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg, this exhibit shows the city and its artists through rare prints, watercolors and illustrated books. This excellent collection was assembled by the late Andre de Saint-Rat, professor of Russian at Miami University. The artists featured in this exhibition were either founding members or strongly influenced by the artists of the Mir iskusstva (World of Art) movement, named for the group’s journal published in St. Petersburg from 1898 to 1904. The rich and exciting history of St. Petersburg, from prints of cityscapes to the development of the ballet to the avant-garde artists of the early 20th century, will be seen in this selection from the de Saint-Rat collection.
