Special Invitations
Alumni Reception at GSA - The Geological Society of America meetings are always a good place to re-establish ties with Miami friends. This year the meeting will be held October 18 - 21 in Portland, Oregon. As in past years, we will participate in the group alumni reception on October 19 from 7:00 - 9:30 PM at the Hilton, Grand Ballroom. We look forward to seeing all the alumni who can make it to GSA.
Baldwin Frontiers in Geology Distinguished Lectureship - This is an endowed account set up to honor A. Dwigth Baldwin, Jr. to bring to campus scholars with national or international reputations to interact with faculty and students. The eighth lecture took place during the fall semester 2009 with Robert Hazen of the Carnegie Institution of Washington Geophysical Laboratory. Dr. Hazen spoke on "Genesis: The Scientific Quest for Life's Origins" . Check back in the future for the date and title of next year's talk. Anyone wishing to contribute to this endowment can do so by sending contributions to the Geology Department.
Limper Lecture Series - Each fall the Department sponsors a Saturday morning lecture series for the general public on a theme related to the earth sciences. These talks have proven interesting and lively, and have served as a vehicle for introducing geology to the public and for drawing alumni back to the department. For more information contact Kendall Hauer at (513) 529-3220. We hope that you will join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a donut and a stimulating discussion on some point of geological interest.
Alumni Update Form
We are always glad to reconnect with our Alumni! Click here to access the form to relate personal or job-related news for inclusion in the annual Alumni Bulletin. You may also use this form to update your current address, phone number and email address.
The department also maintains a rather large alumni database and periodically we lose touch with some of our alums. Please review the list of lost alums and if you know the whereabouts of someone on this list, please send contact information for that person or have them contact us directly by sending an email to the departmental Administrative Assistant, Cathy Edwards.
Some of the newsletters have been scanned in sideways, you will have to rotate the page in your pdf browser in order to read the newsletter on line.
