Intermediate French in Grenoble, France |

| Study French language and culture in Miami University's 1st annual "Summer in Grenoble" program offered by the Department of French and Italian. This summer workshop is for undergraduate students. Earn three or six hours of Miami University credit while living six weeks in the dynamic Alpine city called "Capital of the Alps". |

| Enjoy attending a small class tailored to your level of abilities in the center of Grenoble and its multiple academic or forfront professional and scientific entities, in classrooms technoloically equipped. Take your classes with a Miami faculty member and a variety of French lecturers specialized in the teaching of French as a foreign language. |

Study for your pleasure or complete your language requirements surrounded by the Chartreuse and Vercors mountains in the midst of south-east France at the foot of the Alps. Discover a rich palette of possibilities that the French language offers intertwined with the cultural and political heritage of the Rhône-Alpes region. | Eligibility |
|
| Any student in good standing at Miami University or at any other recognized college or university is eligible, including incoming first-year students (graduating high school seniors eligible for college study), high school students accepted to the Miami University advanced study program for high school students, college graduates, graduate students, and teachers. Students must be at least 18 years old. |

| Courses |
|
Three hour morning classes and three hour afternoon workshops, five days per week, are offered among which you will study written and oral expression, French literature and discover numerous subtle forms of culture. You will participate in day long guided historical interactive tours punctuated by the taste and fragrance of south-eastern Mediterranean and Italian influences
of our French gastronomy. |

| The fieldwork will allow you to experience dialects, social group interaction and every day life rhythm and situations. The fieldtrips punctuated with "Pique-nique" will include traveling with a guide to picturesque countryside, ancient villages and architectural sites. The native activities imply being in a good physical form to participate with excursions in the mountainous landscape just outside the city or spend a day in "Provence". Possible trips will be to Geneve, Vercors, Chambery, Gap, Verdon. |

| Each student will also have the wonderful opportunity to volunteer two hours per week of community service to give back to the community, familiarize him/herself with the French institutions and get more involved with the natives (food kitchen, library, summer camp...) or share his/her langauge or any other skill with a group of elementary school pupils. This is a mandatory part
of the program and will enhance your experience while in Grenoble. |

| Courses are taught by professors from Miami and a variety of French lecturers specilized in the teaching of French as a foreign language. |

Excursions
|
|
|
Tuition costs include weekly excursions to sites of cultural and artistic significance in the Burgundy and Champagne areas. Faculty lead the trips and offer detailed commentary. Specifics vary from year to year, but normally include visits to Romanesque churches in Tournus, Vézelay, Cluny, Fontenay. Other destinations include local vineyards, wine cellars in Beaune, and a two-day trip to the Champagne region with visits of architectural monuments and wine producers. Students travel in comfortable tourist coaches and take their meals picnic-style in the countryside. |

| Tuition |
|
| These fees are the same as projected for the regular summer session fees on the Oxford campus for Ohio residents, and almost half the fees projected for out-of-state students. All fees are subject to revision by the Board of Trustees and may vary somewhat depending on foreign exchange rates and the actual number of participants. |

| Students will also be assessed a $100 workshop fee by Miami University. |
| |
| Transportation |
|
| Students planning to attend can usually arrange less expensive air travel by researching their travel options in advance. Local travel agencies and internet travel services have information on special fares. The Program Director can also help with information on charter and student-rate flights. Once in France, the French rail service offers considerable discounts on student train fares, making travel within the country quite affordable. Students may explore Europe on their own or in groups before or after the program. |

| Lodging |

| Lodging is arranged by the program director with French families in Grenoble. The cost is $1,000 for the six weeks. |

| Meals |
|
Students can buy very affordable meal tickets to eat at University refectories seven days a week. The cost will run around $20 per day for three meals.

| Students can expect to incur some expenses aside from travel expenses to and from Grenoble. |

| Application Procedure |
|
| The application deadline is March 1, 2009, but you are encouraged to submit your application as soon as possible because qualified applicants are accepted on a first-come-first served basis within two weeks after receipt of the application and the group is limited to twenty students. |

| Include a $400.00 deposit check, written to Miami University, with your application. If you are accepted, the deposit will be applied toward your housing fee. Full payment of all fees is due April 15, 2009. If you are not accepted, the deposit will be returned to you. |
