Young Musicians' Program 2008-2009
What is it?
The Virginia Pearrce Glick Young Musicians' Program is a program in music for young instrumentalists as an 
outreach to interested students in the Oxford, Ohio community and surrounding areas. Instruction is presently offered in violin, viola, and cello.
Purpose/goal of the program?
The purpose and goal of the Young Musicians' Program is to promote musical literacy and appreciation through a combination of the best teaching methods currently available. These include Orff, Suzuki, and Colour Strings, among others. Through special Saturday classes the emphasis is on creating a sense of teamwork and mutual support.
Why should I enroll?
Students in the Virginai Pearce Glick Young Musicians' program will develop a foundation for life-long musical participation and appreciation through private lessons, group classes and formal recitals. And it's fun!
Activities?
Students receive weekly private lessons on their instrument at Miami University. Students meet for group classes on selected Saturdays to learn important musical skills and to perform for each other. A formal recital at the end of each semester provides an opportunity for students to perform on stage the music they have learned.
Who is eligible?
Young violinists, violists and cellists—ages 5 through high school—are encouraged to participate. Students will be placed with the appropriate teacher, based on skill level and personal interview
Instructors
The faculty for the Virginia Pearce Glick Young Musicians' Program are carefully selected and highly qualified teachers from Miami University and the region. They are committed to providing a unique educational experience for serious music students.
What is the time commitment?
One lesson per week (30, 45 or 60 minutes), occasional Saturday group lessons, and a semester-end group recital.
