Bachelor of Music in Music Education

choirThe bachelor's degree programs in music education offer preparation for careers in public school teaching, and for further study at the graduate level.

Music education majors can follow one of two programs:
1. Instrumental program
2. Choral/general program

Both programs require 128 credit hours of specifically outlined coursework. Licensure in these programs is for grades preK-12. Students in music education are expected to meet high standards in performance: it is necessary to audition for admission and pass performance examinations at the end of each semester of study. The resulting student confidence in their own performance ability transfers to the success of their teaching. Clinical experiences in music education within the first year of study set the stage for student realization of the knowledge and musicianship involved in the teaching experience.
