Sharon Winton, flute
Sharon Tilbury Winton is Visting Assistant Professor of Flute at Miami University. As a founding member of the Lark Chamber Players she has performed in recitals at the Phillips Collection, the Pan American and Costa Rican Embassies, as well as in appearances throughout the Washington, D.C. area. Until recently Sharon answered to the title of 
Master Sergeant with "The President's Own" United States Marine Band performing for over two decades as soloist, chamber artist and orchestral and wind ensemble musician. She used her musical versatility to entertain four U.S. presidents, numerous heads of state and dozens of foreign dignitaries in over 140 concerts annually here and abroad.
Earning her Performer's Certificate, Bachelor and Master's in Music degrees from Indiana University, she went on to earn a Doctorate in Musical Arts from The Catholic University of America. Dr. Winton has been a featured soloist with the Milwaukee Symphony, Madison Symphony and has performed with the Chesapeake Symphony in their acclaimed River City Summer Concert Series.
She is active in the National Flute Association winning the Convention Performer's Competition, lecturing and performing at their National Conventions. Dr. Winton has presented a lecture/recital at the National Conference of the College Music Society in Quebec City Quebec, Canada as well as master classes and recitals at Muskingham College, Ohio State University, West Virginia University, Northern Arizona State University, and the University of North Carolina-Wilmington.
Dr. Winton’s articles have been published by Flute Talk magazine, Oct 2004: "Three's Not A Crowd", Dec. 2006:"Teaching Is An Art", and “The Unaccompanied Flute Works of Andre Jolivet" in the The Flutist's Quarterly, Winter 2007. Prior teaching experience includes 3 years as Associate Instructor of Flute at Indiana University, Instructor of Flute at The Landon School, Bethesda MD and The Maryland Conservatory of Music where she was also Assistant Director.
