Judith Delzell - Music education

Dr. Judith Delzell, Professor of Music, joined the Miami University faculty in 1999 as chair of the Department of Music. After completing her five-year term, she served on the Provost's staff for two years, returning to the faculty in 2006. Prior to her appointment at Miami University, she served on the Ohio State University faculty forJudith Delzell fourteen years, including seven years as Assistant Director of the School of Music. Her first faculty appointment was at The University of Michigan where she was on the music education faculty for three years. Upon receiving her B.M. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she taught instrumental music (grades 5-12) in Wisconsin public schools for five years.

While completing her M.M. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Michigan, she was the recipient of a University of Michigan doctoral fellowship and the Emil Holz scholarship, and she taught in the university lab band program for five years. Delzell teaches graduate and undergraduate music education courses, and she is involved in research in policies and practices pertaining to instrumental music education programs, teacher education, and women's studies in music. Her articles have appeared in a number of professional publications, including the Journal of Research in Music Education, The Quarterly Journal of Music Teaching and Learning, Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, Music Educators Journal, New Ways, and The Instrumentalist.
