Gregory Phillips - Horn

A native of the Philadelphia area, Gregory Phillips is Associate Professor of Horn at Miami University, and is a member of the Miami Wind Quintet. Since coming to Phillips pictureOxford, he has also performed with the Cincinnati Ballet Orchestra, the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, and the Ohio Valley Symphony. Previously, he played principal horn for six years with the Toledo Symphony, and for two years with the Midland-Odessa Symphony. His prior teaching experience includes two years as horn instructor at Heidelberg College Tiffin, Ohio and two years as horn/trumpet instructor with the Midland (TX) Independent School District.

Along with the symphony background, Mr. Phillips has performed in various other ensembles, including the Toledo Opera Orchestra, the Ohio Light Opera Company, and the Heidelberg (Germany) Castle Festival Orchestra. His chamber music experience includes a Coleman Competition First Prize woodwind quintet in college, the Lone Star Brass Quintet (Midland, TX.), the Heidelberg College Faculty Woodwind Quintet, and the Toledo Symphony Woodwind Quintet.

Mr. Phillips earned his Bachelor of Music degree, with Highest Distinction, at the Eastman School of Music. He received his Master of Music degree in horn performance from Bowling Green State University. His primary horn teachers have been Verne Reynolds, Herbert Spencer, and Richard Miller. As a member of the Miami Wind quintet, he has recorded four CD's, and has performed in Canada, Germany, Luxembourg, Czechoslovakia, Austria, and Venezuela. For the past ten years, he has served as principal horn of the Echternach International Music Festival Orchestra
