David Shaffer is a Visiting Instructor of Music Theory. He holds aBachelor of Music Education degree from Ohio State University and a Master of Music degree from
Miami University. Following eight years of public school teaching, Mr. Shaffer started Music on the Move, Inc., providing music teacher staffing services for private and parochial schools throughout Ohio. In 1985, Mr. Shaffer was appointed as the assistant director and principal arranger for the Miami University Marching Band. This year, besides his arranging duties for the Miami University Marching Band, Mr. Shaffer is serving as the acting director of the Band and is teaching classes in Music Theory, Ear Training, and Arranging.
An active composer, Mr. Shaffer has over 200 compositions and arrangements published by the C.L. Barnhouse Company, Heritage Music Press, and Lake State Publications. His compositions are performed at clinics and music festivals around the world and have been placed on contest performance lists in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia. Mr. Shaffer is in demand as a conductor for new music reading clinics, music festivals, honors bands, and music education seminars across the United States, Canada and Asia.
During the summers of 1985 and 1992 he served as instrumental director for the Saskatchewan School of Fine Arts. In February of 1997, Mr. Shaffer conducted a program of his music with the Republic of China National Collegiate Band in Taipei, Taiwan.
Mr. Shaffer is active in the Judge’s Association of Drum Corps Mid-West and Drum Corps International.
