Wednesday Reception and Institute Home Community Finding Event: 5:00 pm
- This is an important initializing process, so arrive promptly at 5:00.
Wednesday Dinner: 5:30 pm
- Home communities eat at their tables and get to know each other.
Wednesday Evening: 6:30-8:30 pm
- Welcome and introductions
- Getting organized
- Workshop objectives and format
- A quick trip through the Program Director's and Facilitator's Handbook
- Communities discuss assignments and determine jigsaw group membership for Thursday
- Homework
Thursday Morning: 8:30 am-12:00 Noon
- Light reakfast
- Faculty Learning Communities (FLCs)
- Overview, questions, and answers about FLC definitions, models, goals, objectives, activities, components, facilitation, budget, etc.
- Jigsaw groups engage in some of the activities of FLCs:
- Assessing student and faculty learning and connectiong these to FLCs: TGI and CATS, focus course, assessment opportunities
- Key seminar topics: student intellectual development; sharing student/faculty perspectives
- Assessment of FLC components, faculty development outcomes, and student learning
Thursday Lunch: 12:00 Noon
Thursday Afternoon: 1:00-4:30 pm
- Jigsaw groups explore scholarly teaching, developing the scholarship of teaching, and their role in FLCs: teaching projects, course mini portfolios, presenting and publishing SOTL, the FLC curriculum
- Planning for initiating an FLC for your campus: first steps
- Open Space Discussion Groups
Thursday Dinner: 5:00-7:30 pm at Yannis
Thursday Evening
Friday Morning: 8:30-11:30 am
- Light breakfast
- Jigsaw groups discuss kinds of FLCs, FLC facilitators and facilitation, FLC Program Directors, and FLC management items
- Developing plans for designing and implementing faculty learning communities on your campus: models, issues, strategies, challenges, questions
- Working on plans in communities and campus teams; consulting with workshop leaders
Friday Lunch and Poster Session with Experienced FLC Developers: 11:30 am
Friday Afternoon: 1:00-4:30 pm
- Questions, answers, and remaining topics of interest
- Finalizing implementation plans
- Reporting on plans and artifacts
- Each team/individual reports; helpful suggestions offered by participants
- Institute evaluation
Closing Ceremony: 4:30 pm
