Goal
7: A stronger revenue base
The fiscal climate for educational institutions
has never been more challenging, as public
universities face declining state and federal
appropriation and increased competition for
private gifts. As part of First in 2009, Miami
is bringing new approaches to its fundraising
efforts. We have reorganized the University
Advancement Division, restructured the Foundation
Board of Trustees, overhauled the alumni association,
revitalized numerous alumni chapters, expanded
and reinvigorated Alumni Weekend, instituted
a senior-class giving program, and refocussed
and added other opportunities for involvement
by alumni and others in the university's progress.
- Capital Campaign Launched - On
April 9, 2005, Miami publicly launched an
ambitious capital campaign with an anticipated
goal of $350 million by 2007.
Although still early in its process, the campaign has already received over $225 million in commitments.
- Annual Winter College Instituted
- Beginning in 2004, Miami began offering
highly successful annual winter colleges for
Miami alumni in Florida. These dynamic weekends
of educational workshops, inspiring lectures
and vigorous discussion feature some of the
University's most talented faculty.
- Major Gifts Secured – In the past year, University Advancement has spearheaded record amounts of large gifts, including $30 million for the Richard T. Farmer School of Business facilities, over $10 million in student scholarships, and $10 million for the John T. Petters Center for Leadership, Ethics and Skills Development.
