Goal
6: Enhanced Facilities
Miami's campus is obviously more than a beautiful
environment for students. Miami's facilities,
including our grounds, buildings, infrastructure,
equipment, and technology, are essential to
the work of the campus. Each contributes to
the attraction and retention of top students
and faculty and supports meaningful interactions
across constituencies and disciplines to create
the lively spirit of inquiry and investigation
that characterizes the university.
-
Exterior Campus
Master Plan Developed - Stewardship of
Miami's verdant and historic campus is
important to all our consituencies, and
a new master plan, completed in 2001,
outlines steps and strategies to ensure
that our Oxford campus maintains its distinctive
beauty and character for generations to
come.
- Long-Range Facilities Plan Created
- Examining issues such as capacity and
overcrowding in academic and recreational
buildings, vehicular and pedestrian traffic
and residence hall condition and functionality,
this new strategic plan sets forth an agenda
for the next 20 years.
- New Division of Information Technology Approved
- Because the ways that information is communicated
is ever-changing, Miami has created a new
vice-presidential division devoted to the
application of technology in administration,
teaching, research, and learning. In 2003,
this division spearheaded and completed
a long-term strategic plan for information
and learning technology which will help
us to stake out a leadership position in
this increasingly vital area of higher education.
- New Buildings Erected and Others Renovated – Since embarking on the First in 2009 initiative, Miami has created a new student health center, parking structure and apartment-style residence halls. Plans are underway for many other new structures, including a new building for Psychology and the School of Engineering & Applied Science. Yager Stadium, Hanna House, McMillan Hall, McGuffey Hall and the Heritage Room of Shriver Center have been renovated.
