Goal 1: A more highly qualified student body
Superior students benefit a university in
many ways. They help the university attract
outstanding faculty members. Through their
acheivements, they draw attention and national
acclaim to the institution. Mostly, superior
students raise the bar for the entire student
body. They help set the standards that influence
the value of a Miami degree for everyone.
-
Honors & Scholars Program improved and expanded -
Since 2000, this program has undergone continuous revision in order to meet the needs of Miami’s most academically accomplished students. Now one of the most competitive in the region, this program provides enriched learning opportunities and optional living learning communities for over 2000 students .
- Provost's Academic Achievement
Awards Instituted - Established in 2002, these
awards go to rising seniors who have not
only demonstrated outstanding academic ability,
but who also have contributed substantially
to the intellectual climate on campus.
- New Tuition and Scholarship
Plan Developed - This ambitious,
cutting-edge plan enables Miami to attract
a more accomplished and diverse student
body.
- Overall Quality of Applicants
Increased - Over the past five
years, not only has the number of applicants
greatly increased, but also the overall
quality of the pool. Our applicants' test
scores, graduating rank, and GPA's have
improved along with other academic and contextual
variables.
- Strategic Plan for Graduate Education Created
-
As a doctoral-intensive institution, Miami believes that strong graduate programs and students enrich the intellectual climate. Toward that end, a new strategic plan has been developed, and more rigorous admission standards have been instituted to assist us in gaining a national reputation for academic excellence
