8/17/06
Kate Ronald, Miami’s Roger and Joyce L. Howe Professor of English, has been awarded the Distinguished Teaching Award for Excellence in Graduate Instruction and Mentoring. The award will be presented at commencement on Friday, August 18.
Nominator Susan Morgan noted Ronald’s work as director of the Howe Writing Initiative, a joint venture of the Department of English and the Richard T. Farmer School of Business, as well as her consistently high marks from students and high level of involvement with graduate committees.
“Improving student writing is one of Miami’s highest priorities, and Kate is a central figure, arguably the central figure, in responding to that goal,” Morgan wrote in her nomination. “One of the finest graduate educators and mentors at Miami, Kate has shown consistent excellence in the classroom, in supervision and in mentoring. Her work has had a major impact on graduate students and on the curriculum, both in the Department of English and the School of Business.”
Prof. Ronald joined Miami’s faculty in 1997.
