The Department of English is grateful to those alumni and friends who generously support our academic mission. Gifts large and small are crucial to the Department's ability to promote the intellectual life of students and faculty.
You may make a contribution to any of several funds by filling out the Giving Form (available in multiple formats, above) and sending it (printed out) along with your check to the Department of English. If you prefer to use a credit card, you may go to the Development Office website and use their give online form. You can still direct your Development Office credit card gift to the English Department by checking “other” and writing in the English Department General Fund, English Department program, or English Department award to which you wish to give.
The English Department General Fund is used to meet the Department’s most pressing needs. Among its most important uses is helping to support scholars and writers who visit campus for lectures, readings, and other special events. Opportunities to hear and meet writers and scholars make writing come alive for students and make their efforts to write part of a larger community of scholarly endeavor.
It is possible to give directly to the department’s programs by designating the program on the Gift Form. Funds contributed to programs are used to support students in various ways—for special seminars, for scholarships, and for technologies that enhance teaching and learning. If you wish to contribute to a specific program within the English Department, you can do so by indicating your desires on the attached form or on the online form provided by the Development Office.
The English Department also has Award, Scholarship, and Prize Programs that support students in American and British literature and culture, creative writing, linguistics, literary criticism and history, and technical and scientific communication at the Undergraduate and Graduate level. Many of these funds are named to honor their original benefactors. Contributions to existing funds are welcome.
