Undergraduate Program
Majors
Journalism
Once offered as an emphasis within the English major as one option for a degree in English,
journalism at Miami University is now offered as degree within a freestanding program.
For information on the new program, please consult the Journalism Program website:

The Miami University Journalism Program retains the focus on critical thinking, writing, reporting and editing that characterized the English/Journalism program, but also steps beyond the boundaries of the printed page to engage students in rigorous work in broadcast and on-line forms of journalism. The program’s integrated media focus blends the art of writing with the science of digital technology to prepare Miami students for an increasingly diverse, yet converged environment for the practice of journalism.
Requiring a second major, the new journalism program’s interdisciplinary approach also ensures that graduates of the program will emerge from Miami with the breadth of knowledge and flexibility required of 21st-century journalists. Students in the new major are taught by instructors who specialize in a multitude of fields, including English, Mass Communication, Interactive Media Studies and Political Science.
As of May 2004, all students entering Miami University who are interested in pursuing a major in Journalism must do so through the new program.
Students who elected to pursue the English/Journalism degree before May 2004 may fulfill their journalism requirements by enrolling in equivalent courses in the new journalism program, using the following guidelines:
