Work in Progress
Writing to Make Sense of Our Lives started as a conference paper, and is now evolving into an article or possibly a book. We reside in such a treacherous, unpredictable world, one where anxiety and fears permeate our lives and most often shape our writing. How, as writers, do we negotiate through these dangerous times? Writing to Make Sense explores ways to create a safe place within the writing classroom where students can use personal narratives to pose greater questions about this troubling world. This book offers strategies to promote safe distance and perspective when writing about the personal as well as ways to connect our experience to the larger world, thus making sense of our lives.
