Graduate Program

Admission

Overview

The Department of English offers the Master of Arts in English with concentrations in Composition and Rhetoric, in Creative Writing (fiction, poetry, or creative nonfiction specialization), and in Literature; the Master of Technical and Scientific Communication, and the Master of Arts in Teaching offered through the Ohio Writing Project. We offer the Ph.D. in English with specialization in Composition and Rhetoric or in a variety of literary fields.

Application for admission to these programs is a two-step process. The links at right each provide a detailed checklist of items you will need to submit in order to complete your application file for the M.A. or Ph.D. program. Applicants for the Master of Technical and Scientific Communication program should visit the MTSC website for information about required materials and guidelines for their submission. GRE scores are not required for admission to graduate programs offered by the Department of English.

M.A. and Ph.D. program application deadline is February 1. Late applications cannot be accepted. The MTSC program accepts applications for review after February 1, but students who submit all required materials by this deadline have the best chance of admission and assistantship awards.

The Master of Arts in Teaching program is administered by the Ohio Writing Project, whose website offers information about application requirements and procedure.

If you have specific questions about any of our programs or the application process, do not hesitate to contact the Graduate Program Associate, Debra Morner.
