Effects of Dominant Species
on Community Structure
Summer 2002
Some species are more common than others, and common
species frequently exert a large influence on other species. The
nature of these impacts varies with the identity of the dominant
organisms and the associated community members, but several descriptive
and experimental approaches might unify the study of how dominant
species structure ecological communities. The research projects
in this cluster focused on on how dominant species affect the
communities in which they are found.
