Mary G. McDonald, Ph.D.

Position:
Associate Professor
Women's Studies Affiliate

Scholarly and Professional Focus:
My recent work critiques the tendency of mainstream media and scholars alike to frame narratives that privilege one power relationship (i.e. gender, race, sexuality or class) while ignoring others or marginalizing the intersection of several axes of power. My future scholarship will continue to theorize sexism, racism and classism as interacting forces in our culture and not as potent independent forces aligned against one another. This perspective allows for the exploration of the complex meanings and social relations while demonstrating that sport exists within wider cultural, economic, historical and political realms.
