There are a number of student organizations and interest groups affiliated with the KNH Department:
Miami University Student Athletic Trainers’ Association (MUSATA)
Staff Advisor: Jennifer Beardslee (beardsjm@muohio.edu)
MUSATA is a student-run organization created to maintain an environment which will sustain professional development, fellowship, skill development, and promotion of the Athletic Training Profession. Educational in-services are usually held twice a month. To become a member, one must attend all monthly meetings and be current with their dues. Dues are used for the following: speaker gifts, educational models and programs, partial cost of attending professional meetings, and a other activities related to our athletic training program.
Pre-Physical and Occupational Therapy Club
Co-Faculty Advisors: Dr. Helaine Alessio (alessih@muohio.edu) and Dr. Bill Berg (bergwp@muohio.edu)
This organization has been organized for and by students for over 15 years. It provides students of all majors with updated and helpful information about career opportunities and schools in Physical and Occupational Therapy. Monthly meetings include invited speakers from local OT and PT programs and field trips to visit OT and PT schools and clinics.
Miami University Student Dietetic Association (SDA)
Faculty Advisor: Nancy Parkinson (parkinns@muohio.edu)
The purpose of this organization is to foster the professional, educational goals and interests in the fields of nutrition, food service management, and dietetics. The organization will pursue these objectives in affiliation with the Ohio and American Dietetic Associations. This affiliation provides assistance in preparing programs and furthers the purpose of SDA. All students enrolled at Miami University, who have an interest in food and nutrition can join and become active members.
Dance Theatre

A part of the Miami University art scene since 1933, and originally named Orchesis, Dance Theatre, is an eclectic dance company. In a major concert held each semester in Hall Auditorium, the company showcases boldly innovative and diverse choreography, utilizing the talents of guest artists, faculty, and students. Dance Theatre provides an intellectual and cultural art experience at each event. Through its Dance Repertory Group, Dance Theatre also has a strong outreach program in underserved elementary schools in Butler County. Check out the Dance Theatre website.
Miami Swing Syndicate
Faculty Advisor: Lana Kay Rosenberg (rosenblk@muohio.edu).
Swing Syndicate is a dance interest group focusing on Swing dancing. Incorporating various Swing styles into their learning and dancing, Miami Swing Syndicate collaborates with professional dance instructors from Dayton and nearby areas to offer Swing Dance Workshops, which can last as long as six hours with open dance sessions later in the evening. The workshops are free and open to the public. The group also holds regular teaching and dance sessions each week.
