KNH Research Labs:
Human Performance Laboratory

Rooms 16, 18, 19, 22, 23, and 36 Phillips Hall
Faculty and students using the Human Performance Laboratory are delving into such issues as the impact of exercise on hearing and speech, ways to increase physical activity in children, how body weight might affect nutrient utilization, and the potential impact of treadmill workstations. Among the other possible tests in the labs are body composition testing, endurance capacity, cholesterol, and strength/power measures.
Equipment includes:
- Air Displacement Plethysmography System (Bod Pod )
- Three ParvoMedics Metabolic Measurement Systems
- Three Electrocardiograph Systems
- Blood Chemistry Equipment
- Two -20°C Freezers
- Portable Oxygen Analyzer
- Various Treadmills & Exercise Bikes • Heartrate Monitors, Pedometers, Accelerometer
Motor Behavior Laboratory
Room 15 Phillips Hall

Research underway in the Motor Behavior Laboratory includes looking at the impact of postural adjustments on maintaining balance, jumping/landing mechanics in females, and ways to help the elderly avoid falls. The equipment also allows for analysis of movement, force production, reaction time, and electrical activity in muscle.
- Bertec force platform
- Noraxon EMG system
- Senix motion analysis system
- Isokinetic dynamometer
- Devices for measuring reaction and movement time
Neuromuscular Performance Laboratory

Room 15 Phillips Hall
Students and faculty using the Neuromuscular Performance Laboratory are participating in research projects that include reaction time during cell phone use, injury prevention during jumping, nerve and muscle activities before, during, and after an explosive exercise, and motion analyses of sport performance.
Equipment includes:
- Magnum Resistance Training Equipment
- Various Cardiovascular Exercise Equipment
Dietetics Laboratory

Room 101 Phillips Hall
Faculty and students use the Dietetics Laboratory to prepare and analyze food. Facility includes 16 cooking stations with equipment designed to test food texture, macro and micro nutrient content, vitamin analyses, among others.
Animal Laboratory
Pearson Hall
A state-of-the-art animal facility is housed in Pearson Hall. Running wheels, a motorized treadmill, activity boxes, a spatial maze, and automated feeding, drinking, and light/dark system are available for animal models including rats, mice, guinea pigs, and rabbits. Interdisciplinary research involving Departments of Zoology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Psychology, and Kinesiology and Health occur regularly with faculty and students from these departments working on National Institutes of Health-funded projects.
