Kinesiology & Health

How To Apply

School of Education, Health, and Society

General Admission Information:

Students from diverse undergraduate disciplines (biological sciences, social sciences, humanities, education, physical and health education) will be considered for admission. However, individual degree program areas will be looking for applicants with particular undergraduate academic experiences. For example, the Exercise Science program will look for students with coursework in chemistry, human biology, and physiology.

Directions for applying:

  • Apply online at muohio.edu/graduate and submit a $35 application fee.
  • Have all undergraduate transcripts* sent to:

              The Graduate School

              102 Roudebush Hall

              Miami University

              Oxford, Ohio 45056

  • Miami graduates need to supply only one official transcript; graduates of other colleges and universities must send two. Additionally, if you have completed graduate-level coursework at any other institution, you will also need to send two official transcripts from these institutions.
  • Submit GRE or MAT test scores to the Graduate School. One of these sets of scores is required for all applicants. When registering for either the GRE or the MAT, specify that you wish your scores to be sent to the Kinesiology and Health Department at Miami University. For the GRE, the university code is R1463 and the departmental code is 3909.
  • Download the online departmental application. Click here.
  • Email complete departmental application and goal statement/resume to: knh@muohio.edu
  • Send three letters of recommendation to:

              Graduate Coordinator

              106 Phillips Hall

              Miami University

              Oxford, Ohio 45056

The letters of recommendation should attest to your academic ability.  These letters in combination with your GRE or MAT test scores will be used as an indicator of your academic potential.

It is strongly recommended that at least two of the three letters be from instructors or professors from your undergraduate institution. Letters from coaches or job supervisors are typically less helpful because they provide little information regarding your academic abilities (e.g., your writing competencies, your ability to think critically and logically, the depth of your academic knowledge, etc.).

Deadline: Unless applying for a graduate assistantship, there is no application deadline. Graduate assistantship applications should be received by Feb. 1 for consideration for fall semester appointments.
