Healthy Weight Management

Next session starts January 2010.
Purpose of the program. To provide participants with the most current up-to-date information and appropriate knowledge for managing a healthy body weight. By the end of the program, participants should have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively manage a healthy body weight.
Description of the program. This is a 15-week comprehensive program that includes:
- Lifestyle modification
- Nutritional education
- Individual exercise programs
- Exercise and nutritional evaluations
Weekly sessions (~1.5 to 2 hours in duration) will focus on important topics that will provide participants with the skills to effectively manage a healthy body weight. Individualized attention will be provided to help modify participant's lifestyle and develop an exercise program that is conducive to individual interests and desires.
Several healthy meal preparation sessions will be conducted in the Food Preparation Laboratory. Personal training sessions will help individuals develop a sound exercise program.
Upon completion of the program, participants will be eligible for monthly follow-up sessions for 1 year. All classes are held in Phillips Hall located on the Miami University Campus.
Fee. $725. Miami employees and students eligible for discount.
Enrolling in the program. To enroll in the program:
1. Complete a health history questionnaire and provide a written note from your personal health care provider indicating that it is appropriate for you to participate in an exercise program.
2. Schedule a visit to the Human Performance Laboratory in Phillips Hall on the Miami University campus in Oxford for preliminary testing which includes a routine physical examination and an assessment of fitness level.
3. Enroll in the next available Healthy Weight Management Program Session which begins Wednesday, January 18th, 2006 at 6:00 pm.
4. Payment is due upon enrollment in a program session. We accept personal checks, cash, and payroll deduction for Miami University employees.
Fees. The cost of the 15-week program and the monthly follow-ups for one year is $725. Miami University employees and spouses/partners are eligible for a 20% discount. This fee includes all lectures and materials for the program, fitness testing, personal training, nutritional analysis, food for the healthy meal preparations, and heart rate monitors and step counters.
Faculty. All faculty teaching in the program are experts in their respective fields and affiliated with Miami University.
