About the Effective Educator Award
School of Education, Health and Society (EHS) faculty members are regularly nominated for teaching awards. In fact, more than 20 percent of professors nominated for the alumni association's 2007 "effective educator" award were from EHS. The winner, Dr. Tom Romano, professor of teacher education, works with students who want to teach language arts at the high school or middle school level. A nationally recognized authority on the teaching of writing, he starts each class with a poem. In the teaching clip, he's reciting a poem he wrote himself about the challenges (and rewards) of teacher accountability and the national emphasis on standardized testing.
