Armstrong Professorship in Digital Media

ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

Responsibilities:

Assistant or Associate Professor to hold Armstrong Professorship in Digital Media; work with the Armstrong Institute for Interactive Media Studies (AIMS); be a highly effective teacher; produce innovative and fundable scholarship that simultaneously reflects and advances the vision, mission, and national/international reputation of both the School and AIMS; perform service to the institution which could include development of: curricula, internship programs, or digital media programs.

Qualifications:

Require: Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree, in a field of study represented in the School (Educational Leadership, Educational Psychology, Family Studies and Social Work, Kinesiology and Health, or Teacher Education), or a related field (ABD accepted with completion by the date of appointment); established interest in interactive digital media in educational contexts with expertise in one or more of the following areas: new media pedagogy and theory, web 2.0 technologies, distance learning, online content creation/critique, software application and tools development, virtual environments, or gaming; be knowledgeable about and responsive to the different ways technology has changed society; keen interpersonal and communication skills; a documented record of collaborative experiences. For appointment as Associate Professor, require established record of successful scholarship and teaching. The AIMS Professor is a critical linchpin in the EHS's efforts to build interdisciplinary synergy among various technology initiatives. Desirable candidates will be influential, inspirational, and collaborative, inviting faculty and students to think and act differently as teachers, researchers, and citizens. A successful candidate will be a leader within EHS and an ambassador to other constituencies. Duties: Expected duties include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, especially in the area of educational assessment, conducting and publishing research, serving on student research committees, and providing service to the department, university and profession. 

Required Qualifications: The candidate must hold an earned doctorate (or ABD) in educational psychology or comparable field and have expertise in designing, analyzing, and evaluating assessment practices and policies. Candidates must have knowledge of multicultural education or experience working with diverse student populations in P-12 education.

Desired Qualifications: Desired qualifications include three or more years of practice as an educator, experience using and evaluating varied assessment methods with special expertise in either quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods of assessment, and ability to take a leadership role in planning coursework that prepares students for assessment practices. Also desired is knowledge of learning and human development theories, work with linguistically diverse learners, ESL/TESOL experience, or international experience/focus.

Desired Qualifications: Three years of K-12 teaching or related experience,  record of external funding, experience in culturally diverse, urban, or international settings, preparation of literacy coaches, and the ability to contribute to existing strengths and initiatives, such as preparing teachers to work with English Language Learners and to integrate literacy with technology.

Position: READING/LANGUAGE ARTS, Assistant Professor, tenure-track.

Duties: Teach Reading/Language Arts methods courses in early childhood and/or middle childhood education programs, supervise field-based program experiences, advise undergraduate and graduate students, teach graduate courses, supervise graduate research, conduct and publish research, and provide service to the department, university, and the profession.

Required Qualifications: Earned doctorate in Education with emphasis in Reading/Language Arts or a closely related field. ABDs will be considered, but the doctoral degree must be completed by the time of appointment. Evidence of research and scholarship. Knowledge of multicultural education or background in working with diverse student populations in preK-12 and/or higher education. 

Desired Qualifications: (a) three or more years of preK-12 teaching experience in culturally diverse, urban, or international settings, (b) leadership in state and national professional organizations, (c) experience with school-university partnerships, and (d) the ability to contribute to existing strengths and initiatives, such as preparing teachers to work with English Language Learners and to integrate literacy and technology in the classroom.

Desired Qualifications:  Inclusionary experience and experience with culturally and linguistically diverse students or students in urban environments; three years teaching experience with children ages 3-8; evidence of professional service, effective teaching, grantsmanship, and scholarly productivity in early childhood education.  Participation in state and national professional organizations, experience with school-university partnerships, experience in integrating technology in early childhood teaching, and background to teach social studies methods and/or reading/literacy courses.

Position: SOCIAL WORK , Assistant Professor, Tenure Track

As a department committed to Miami University and the mission of the school of Education, Health and Society, the Family Studies and Social Work (FSW) Department is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Professor (tenure track) in Social Work at its Oxford Campus. The Social Work Program offers an undergraduate BSW social work degree accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Miami University, routinely recognized for its outstanding undergraduate education and its beautiful campus, is located near Dayton and Cincinnati, and serves close to 17,000 undergraduate and graduate students at its Oxford, Hamilton and Middletown campuses and its learning center in West Chester.

Position Duties: Professional responsibilities include teaching undergraduate social work courses, establishing a substantial record of scholarship, seeking external funding, advising students, and providing service to the university, community and profession. In addition to the aforementioned tasks, the successful applicant will also help to coordinate the field practicum experience by establishing and maintaining relationships with community agencies, providing support for students in field placement through visits as well as plan and implement field supervisor orientation sessions.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. by date of appointment in social work or related field; MSW with a minimum of two years of post-MSW practice experience; experience with multicultural and diverse populations.  

Desired Qualification: Higher-education teaching; publication and external funding potential; commitment to university and community service; CSWE accreditation standards; ability to teach courses in family studies; serve on family studies graduate committees; work with linguistically diverse learners.

Position: INTERDISCIPLINARY-PHYSICAL ACTIVITY & COGNITIVE CONNECTION IN CHILDREN, Assistant/Associate, tenure track

Job description: The School of Education, Health and Society (EHS) at Miami University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor position with an interdisciplinary focus on physical activity-cognitive function/academic achievement connection in children, beginning in August 2009. This position builds on the division’s commitment to interdisciplinary work that generates new knowledge regarding the inter-relationships between physical activity/fitness and cognitive function/academic achievement in children. Research/teaching focus could involve the role of physical activity/fitness on children’s academic achievement or neuro-cognitive function, movement therapy for children with developmental disabilities, children’s mental and physical health, and the multiple contexts in which these issues persist in a school setting.

Appointment would be in one of the five departments in the School of Education, Health, and Society. Candidates should be able to teach interdisciplinary courses, as well as disciplinary courses in the home department; maintain a productive research agenda, and provide service to the university. We are especially interested in applicants who have a strong interest, as well as expertise in pursuing external funding and engaging in interdisciplinary research with others in EHS and across the university.

Require: Doctorate in education, kinesiology, psychology, health or a related field by time of the appointment; knowledge of or experience with multicultural populations; extensive record of high quality research and university teaching required for appointment as associate professor.

Desire: previous p-12 or university teaching experience; grant writing experience; experience with urban settings; experience with linguistically diverse learners and/or international experience; candidates who have a strong interest, as well as expertise in pursuing external funding and engaging in interdisciplinary research with others in the division and across the university.
