Dr. Jhan Doughty Berry

Dr. Jhan Doughty Berry has been at Miami University since 2004. She received her masters and doctorate in Counselor Education with a concentration in Psychology from The Pennsylvania State University and completed a NIMH post-doctoral fellowship in the Departments of Psychiatry and Epidemiology and Public Health from Yale University School of Medicine. She received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Xavier University of Louisiana. A certified rehabilitation counselor, some of Dr. Berry's work experience includes serving as the Supervisor for the School-to-Work Transition and Deaf Services Program in the Hillsborough County Public School District in Tampa, Florida. She also has worked as a counselor with children and adolescents in both a juvenile detention facility and an inpatient mental health facility. Dr. Berry's research and scholarship is in the area of working with adults and children with severe mental health and/or physical disabilities, pediatric health care, intervention-based research, ethical issues in research and multicultural issues. She has published several articles in the areas of dual diagnosis (persons with co-existing mental health and substance dependence issues), multicultural counseling and intervention-based research. Dr. Berry has also received federal and private grant funding to conduct her research. Dr. Berry is the Director of Student Retention and Diverse Student Success in the Offices of the Provost and the President. Formerly, she was the Director of Research Compliance for the university. She holds a Adjunct Assistant Professor appointment in the Departments of Educational Psychology and Psychology. She is also a Faculty Associate in the Center for Human Development, Learning and Technology. |
