Faculty in EDL are working with EDL doctoral graduate Quanyu Huang (Ph.D. 1993), Director of Miami University’s Confucius Institute, on developing a two-week professional development visit for Chinese school principals to Miami University and neighboring schools. The Chinese Principals’ Professional Development Institute at Miami is a collaboration between Sun Yet-Sen University, in Guangzhou, China, and Miami University and is part of a larger partnership between the teacher and principal preparation programs of the two universities. The Institute, tentatively scheduled for late Fall, 2008, will draw on the expertise of a wide range of Miami professors and educational professionals from southwest Ohio. The Chinese principals will have an opportunity to get a close view of best practices in teaching and educational leadership in rural, urban and suburban schools and will “shadow” local school principals for two days.
