Undergraduate Programs
School of Education, Health, and Society
At Miami, our focus is preparing undergraduates for classroom positions. You can choose a major in teacher education and go straight into a teaching position without going to graduate school.

By your junior year, you will have had a field work placement. In your senior year, you will be placed in a student teaching position. By graduation, you will have been immersed in your future profession, and have received mentoring and feedback each step of the way.
When you complete Miami’s undergraduate program you are eligible for a two-year provisional teaching license. After passing the mandatory Praxis III test and taking some additional graduate-level coursework you will be eligible for a five-year teaching license. You can renew that license one time before you must obtain either a master’s degree or 30 additional credit hours.
The following chart provides a list of majors. For detailed programs of study for each major go here.*
* Please be advised that programs of study for licensure programs do change. Students who declared a teacher education major prior to the current catalog year should go to 404 McGuffey Hall for “pink sheets” outlining the program of study that applies to them. There are minor changes that may have occurred in some programs.
