Transfer Student FAQs

I’m thinking about transferring to Miami. Can I get right into a cohort?
The admissions office may have told you to check with the Department of Teacher Education because of our selective admission policy and the competitiveness of our programs. Admission to Miami is not the same as admission to a specific program. In the Department of Teacher Education, you begin as a pre-major and apply for admission to a cohort. The cohort simply refers to the group of people who take their methods coursework together.
Transfer students who have some very specific requirements met when they come to Miami will be considered for earlier cohorts on a space-available basis.
How will my courses transfer to Miami?
You may encounter the problem of having taken a course on the quarter system and transferring it into our semester system. A 3-hour course taken on the quarter system transfers here as only 2 semester hours. Four quarter hours = 2.6 semester hours and 5 quarter hours = 3.3 semester hours. If you are admitted to Miami, you should meet with an advisor after you receive your transcript evaluation.
