Mentors

The Choose Ohio First Mentor Teacher Fellowship will provide a variety of support for mentors of new mathematics and science teachers. Included in the support will be a scholarship to participate in a Teacher Academy at Miami during the summer of 2010 and a scholarship for up to three additional credit hours of graduate coursework at Miami in mathematics, science or mentoring courses.

Eligibility

To be eligible a person should be serving in the role as mentor for a mathematics or science teacher at the high school or middle school level in Ohio. Preference will be given to those working in school districts in southwest Ohio and to those mentoring new teachers who are participating in the Teacher Academy at Miami during the summer of 2010.

 

Benefits

  • Up to 20 mentors will receive a full scholarship to participate in the Teacher Academy (June 14- June 25, 2010) at Miami's Voice of America Center. The Academy will include a three-credit hour workshop course that will focus on two topics: misconceptions in mathematics and science, and support for mentors (e.g. Pathwise support, etc.)
  • The mentors will receive a scholarship to take up to three additional credit hours in mathematics, science or mentoring coursework at Miami.
