The School of Education and Allied Professions continues its journey to increase diversity in students, faculty and curricula experiences. There is a major Urban Cohort initiative in the planning process. The focus of this effort is to provide classes and field experiences for students and faculty in Cincinnati , Hamilton and Middletown with two ultimate goals.
First, we want to more effectively prepare all Miami students in SEAP to deliver educational and allied professional services to clientele in urban and increasingly diverse suburban communities. Our second focus is to develop a pipeline of diverse students from our three major urban areas, Cincinnati , Hamilton and Middletown , who are committed to return to those communities in their professional roles.

In order to continue move the division's diversity agenda forward, members of last year's Faculty Learning Community are continuing to meet to finalize a book that addresses issues of diversity. Other initiatives include the establishment of a program to provide faculty mentors for diverse students who wish to have a mentor; revitalization of SEAP's Student Diversity Advisory Committee, summer bridge programs with area high school students, campus visits for parents and students from local communities, a faculty diversity reading group, a brown bag discussion group, and a continuation of the Study Circle vehicle as a way to involve each SEAP department an opportunity to develop an action plan to enhance aspects of diversity.
A list of websites that address a broad array of diversity issues has been added to our web page. The websites are intended as a quick resource for faculty and students who are doing research or seeking resources, lessons, and other forms of diversity data. We invite faculty and students to recommend additional pertinent links, book reviews, article critiques and other involvement in diversity activity that can be used to update our site.
