Curriculum and Teacher Leadership
The Curriculum and Teacher Leadership (CTL) program takes a broad view of leadership as a school based activity grounded in principles of social justice, critical literacy and community building. Such leadership is taken on by teachers in both formal and informal leadership roles in their classrooms, schools, and communities. The program is guided by a conception of teacher leadership that encourages and develops the potential of teachers as curriculum-makers in their classrooms, action researchers, and as critical decision-makers across school and community environments.

The program is a flexible yet focused, consisting of 30 hours of coursework in the areas of curriculum, social foundations of education, leadership, and research. Taking one-two courses a semester and two courses in the summer, students typically finish the program in 2 years.

The program is designed to meet the needs of a diverse group of educators, including students interested in continuing in a doctoral program in educational studies, K-12 teachers who are interested in furthering and enlivening their own teaching by taking classes together, licensed preservice teachers just graduated from undergraduate programs, and teaching professionals who work in educational programs in the community and agencies.

All courses for this program will be offered at VOALC.

• School Leadership
The School Leadership program is a dynamic place to pursue your Principal Licensure. The program provides a rigorous and innovative academic environment that incorporates problem-solving in school settings, a cohort of 12-18 students, an active and involved student body, and a high level of faculty-student interaction.

Designed in response to the growing call for educational reform, the program recognizes that we cannot have effective schools without effective school leaders. The program recognizes that school administration must change to reflect the participatory organizational structure of schools, where problems are solved in teams where members collaborate and share their experiences and specialized knowledge. Our program recognizes the craft of administration by recognizing the clinical dimension of professional practice, as well as the theory and vision behind transformative leadership.

Taking two courses a semester and four courses in the summer, students typically finish the 30 hours of the masters program in 2 years, and the additional 15 hours of principal license coursework in 1 year.

All courses for this program will be offered at VOALC.
