Dr. Carine M. Feyten : Dean

Welcome to Miami University’s School of Education and Allied Professions.  If you want to make a difference, you’ve come to the right place.  Our aim is to assist students in becoming transformative leaders who will be capable of understanding and solving the most critical educational and health issues facing schools, families, and the larger community.

This is an ambitious goal, but we’re uniquely positioned to succeed. Consider the complex problems facing education and society in the 21st century. It’s easy to see that looking at issues in isolation no longer works.  Increasingly, evidence suggests that an interdisciplinary, holistic approach that takes into account factors ranging from health and wellness to family involvement is needed. Students in Miami’s School of Education and Allied Professions have the opportunity to learn in an environment that promotes exactly this kind of integrated human experience.

We do this by providing more diverse programs than are available at traditional schools of education. This means our students study with faculty members whose expertise and research interests range from teacher education, educational psychology and educational leadership to social work, family studies, and physical education, health and sport studies. The synergy produced by this mix benefits everyone. Additionally, our strong and growing partnerships with school districts and community agencies provide students and faculty with opportunities to put research into practice and ‘walk the talk.’

It’s all here:

  • Academically ambitious students.
  • An array of innovative programs taught by nationally and internationally recognized faculty.
  • An international emphasis that gives our students teaching and learning opportunities across the world.
  • A newly renovated building whose $9.6 million in improvements includes classrooms and laboratories with state-of-the-art technology that will, in turn, help our graduates teach in a medium appropriate to a new generation.
  • An abiding commitment to the belief that embracing diversity and inclusion benefits each of us.

I encourage you to browse through this website to learn more. I hope that if you’re looking for a challenging, exciting place to work and study you’ll consider Miami University.
