The 2008 EHS student speaker is early childhood education major Marissa Hirsh. After studying at Miami’s Luxembourg campus as a sophomore, Marissa traveled to Namibia, Africa, as the first undergraduate to participate in Earth Expeditions (a partnership program between Miami University and the Cincinnati Zoo), where she studied cheetah conservation and inquiry-based education.
She helped found the Miami University chapter of Ambassadors for Children; a non-profit organization dedicated to serving children in need around the world, and was the chapter’s president during her senior year.
As a junior, Marissa worked on a project with Miami President David Hodge, researching and co-authoring a paper he presented at an Association of American Colleges and Universities’ conference on the student as scholar.
Next year, she will be participating in AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corps, where she will work for an anti-poverty organization in Chicago.
