Strategic plan provides 'map' for EHS

Someone once said if you don't know where you're going, any road will get you there.
But the School of Education, Health and Society (EHS) does know where it's going, and it's just published a summary of its "map," a new strategic plan designed to guide decision making.
The plan is the culmination of a school-wide effort that saw faculty from each department come together to discuss the division's strengths, challenges and future. "Through engaged and spirited dialogue, we explored how we could best make a difference for our students, our communities and the world around us," said Dean Carine Feyten.
Miami President David Hodge called the plan "a powerful foundation for the School," adding that he is looking forward to it serving as a compass for years ahead.
Feyten explained that the plan was a faculty-led initiative and credited members of the 2007-08 and 2008-09 EHS faculty advisory committee with shaping a document that everyone could own.
The strategic plan effort was co-chaired by Gary Peterson (chair, Family Studies and Social Work) and Kouider Mokhtari (Teacher Education).
Advisory committee members who worked on various phases of the project include: Educational Leadership, Richard Quantz and Roland Coloma; Educational Pyschology, Doris Bergen, Katherine Wickstrom, Aimin Wang and Leah Wasburn-Moses; Family Studies and Social Work, Kevin Bush, Ji-Young Lim; Kinesiology and Health, Mary McDonald, Bill Berg, Reginald Fennell; and Teacher Education, Barb Heuberger, Paula Saine, Jeffrey Wanko and Tom Romano.
Associate and assistant deans who contributed included Melissa Chase, Michael Dantley, Judy Rogers and Ray Terrell.
