At its recent annual meeting, the National Council for the Social Studies passed a resolution honoring the late James J. Sheehan for his contributions to social studies education.
Sheehan, 42, a popular faculty member in Miami's teacher education department, died May 4, 2008 after a long illness.
The resolution stated that he "exemplified social studies professionalism at its highest level," adding that he contributed greatly to the growth of his students as well as to the field of social studies.
