Three alumni were presented Profound Impact Awards from Miami University’s School of Education, Health and Society at a reception April 30 that recognized their contributions to society.
“As a group and as individuals these award winners represent what Miami’s School of Education, Health and Society is all about. They exemplify the good work that thousands of EHS graduates are doing,” said Carine Feyten, EHS dean.
The awardees include:
• Judith Matsko. Matsko is a 1976 graduate of Miami, who has been a health and physical education teacher, volleyball coach and track coach at Strongville City Schools in the Cleveland area for 29 years. She has not only touched the lives of thousands of students, but she has worked tirelessly to empower women to lead successful lives.
• Pam Termeer. Termeer is a 1973 graduate of Miami who in the 25 years she has taught at Kramer School in the Talawanda School District has given her first-grade students love, understanding, and a firm foundation for academic success.
• Phillip J. Van Fossen. Van Fossen is a 1986 graduate of Miami who is the James F. Ackerman Professor of Social Studies Education at Purdue University and is one of the leading social studies educators in the United State. He earned his MEd from Miami in 1990.
A number of outstanding graduates were nominated for the award by current and past faculty, making it extremely difficult to winnow down the list to only three award winners, said Feyten.
