Grants on upswing

The annual total of grants received by faculty in the School of Education, Health and Society (EHS) has soared by more than 150 percent in the past five years—from $1.3 million in 2003-04 to $3.4 million in 2007-08.
“This is a significant accomplishment for any division,” said Dean Carine Feyten. “Discovering new knowledge through scholarly activity is an important part of what it is to be a university.”
She added that the jump in grant money not only enhances the school’s national reputation, but also provides additional opportunities for students to work alongside faculty on inquiry-based activities outside of the classroom setting.
Recent grants range from enhancing mathematics education to evaluating social service programs to combatting childhood obesity.
