Educational Leadership
FAQs
Who should apply for the Educational Leadership (EDL) program?
EDL graduate programs prepare students for leadership positions in elementary and secondary schools; central office positions in curriculum, instruction, and administration; college teaching positions in administration and curriculum; research and leadership positions in foundations, social service agencies, and other educative institutions; and student affairs positions in higher education.
Many, but not all, EDL graduate students have experience in K-12 schools or higher education. EDL graduate students in all of our programs come with a variety of backgrounds, but all share a commitment to improving educational practice and theory, an interest in studying and engaging in educational research, and professional and personal motivation.
Applicants for doctoral programs need to have a master’s degree. Individual programs and professional licensure programs have different pre-prequisite requirements.

In the summer, EDL faculty work with students to adjust class schedules to student needs. The College Student Personnel program's courses are, however, offered in the morning and afternoon.
Can I complete my degree while working full time?
Students may complete the Curriculum and Teachers Leadership master's program, the School Leadership master's program, and the Ed.D. program while working full time. The Ph.D. Educational Administration program requires a two-semester residency of full-time study.
The Ph.D. program in Student Affairs in Higher Eductation is designed for both full-time or part-time students. The College Student Personnel Master's program is designed primarily for full-time students.

Most of our courses are offered at Miami’s Oxford campus. We offer additional master's and doctoral courses on the Hamilton and Middletown regional campuses. Beginning in January 2009, the School Leadership master’s program and a large number of courses in the Curriculum and Teacher Leadership master’s program will be offered at Miami University’s Voice of America site off I-75 in West Chester.
Does EDL offer any on-line courses?
EDL faculty believe personal interaction enhances the educational process. However, some of our courses do include on-line components; additionally, our internship and practicum courses often have off-site meetings and flexible schedules.
