EDL Alumns at 2009 OSBA Conference

EDl faculty and alumni at 2009 Capital Conference, Columbus, Ohio

The EDL booth was another big draw at this year's Ohio School Board's Association Conference in Columbus, November 9-10.  Visitors from across the ages stopped by.  Helping to host the booth were Clairi Huff Franklin, currently doctoral student and Al Kettlewell-- both of whom missed this picture, and doctoral graduates Gayle Niehause, Judy Vermillion, Barb Curry and Steve Price (back row); and professors Kate Rousmaniere, Jim Burchyett, and Kathy Mecoli (front row).

2008 EDL Reunion

In June, 2008more than 130 graduates, current and former faculty, staff, students and friends of the Department of Educational Leadership returned to Miami for a reunion luncheon.

2008 EDL reunion

The June 13 reunion was a follow-up to a reunion two years ago. It celebrated an outstanding fund-raising project initiated by former professors and colleagues. The EDL Fellows Program is designed to enhance financial support for EDL doctoral students. An afternoon session of a panel of EDL alums currently working in the field was designed to continue to build bridges between EDL and the field of K-12 education by sharing wisdom of graduates in educational leadership positions.

Read the speeches from the reunion given by Dr. Phil Price ’78, Dr. Jim Burchyett and Dr. Kate Rousmaniere, EDL chair.

The department is planning more regular summer get-togethers.

EDL Fellows Program

A group of retired EDL faculty members have spearheaded the creation of the EDL Fellows Program to support the next generation of educational leaders.

The 2008 EDL Reunion featured the unveiling of a plaque containing the names of donors to the program, who include former faculty members Al Kettlewell, James Burchyett, Jim Showkeir, and Charles Teckman. Their efforts join with the late Hugh Morrison and John Shrive, former faculty members, who established the program’s original two fellowships.

Cheryl Gabe, who earned her Ph.D in 1988, Beth Muskopf, who earned her Ph.D. in 1998, and Phil Price, who earned his Ph.D. in 1978, are the first EDL alumni to commit to the program.
