This is a great choice!! Since red acorns don't sprout until spring, it would be better for you to save them and they would be the same as when you had them in the autumn. If you had chosen to hide white oak acorns for the winter, you would not have had very good food in the spring since they sprout in the fall. All of the fat would be transfered to roots and other systems of the acorn.
