
Good choice! If fat content was the only thing that was important, squirrels would always choose red oak acorns. By eating high fat acorns, squirrels don't have to work as hard for their energy. They would have more time to do more things, like build nests. By having to go out less for food, they are less likely to be seen or eaten by a dog, hawk, or other predator! However, there is more to acorns than fat!
