Becoming a Howe Center Writing Consultant |
The Howe Student Center for Writing Excellence employs undergraduate and graduate students as writing consultants for 2008-2009. We seek applications from students in every major.
Training
To prepare for writing consultant jobs, students must take “Writing Center Consulting” (ENG 481/581). This 3-credit course meets Tuesdays from 7:00 to 9:40. Professor John Tassoni is the instructor. You may download the syllabus.
Enrollment in the course is limited to students who have been selected through the application process described below.
Consulting
Students in English 481/581 begin consulting a few hours per week after the middle of fall semester. Pay is $7.70 per hour for undergraduates and $9.20 per hour for graduate students.
Each student who completes the course and is prepared to consult effectively will work 6 to 10 hours per week during spring semester.
Application Process
To apply for a Howe Center position, submit a letter of application to Kate Francis (francik@muohio.edu). The application deadline is April 4.
