Ohio Community Collaboration Model for School Success
The Center for School-Based Mental Health Programs, in collaboration with the Ohio State University , assisted the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) with the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Ohio Collaborative Community School Improvement Model. This model builds on the standards-based education initiative that has driven school improvement over the past few years by adding attention to other factors in students' lives that may impact learning. The overall goals of the pilot evaluation are:
- To test the viability of the expanded model of school improvement in real school settings
- To track the adoption process to identify key changes in school, family, and community roles, responsibilities, structure, and capacities relative to school improvement
- To determine what forces and factors enhance or impede successful adoption of the model
- To guide local action toward a balanced approach to educational reform
- To guide state (ODE) policy development and direction as it moves toward a balanced approach to school improvement
- To inform content in professional education (higher education) and professional development
To this end, the Center partnered in the pilot project by assisting with the development of tools, materials, and processes for planning,
implementing, and evaluating the Ohio Collaborative Community School Improvement Model in six pilot schools across the state of Ohio. The Center also oversaw implementation of the model at one pilot school. In addition, the Center participated in coordinating training and technical assistance by pilot project liaisons, training service providers in implementation of the model and the model’s core components, and assistied with disseminating results of research conducted to test the viability of the model.
