Dr. Carl E. Paternite obtained his graduate training in developmental and clinical psychology at the University of Iowa. Currently he is Professor of Psychology and Department Chairperson at Miami University, where he has been on the faculty for 27 years. He is the founding and current director of the Center for School-Based Mental Health Programs in the Department of Psychology, where he has been involved regionally and nationally in efforts to promote expanded, evidence-based, school-based mental health programming. He also directs the Ohio Mental Health Network for School Success, currently a joint venture of the Ohio Department of Mental Health and the Ohio Department of Education. He has particular interest in approaches to involve educators more fully in school-based mental health efforts. Dr. Paternite also is well known for his research on external validation of diagnostic models for childhood, adolescent, and young adult ADHD and disruptive disorders, as well as on social-contextual factors that contribute to the development of behavior problems. Recently, Dr. Paternite was a co-recipient of the Miami University College of Arts and Science 2003 Distinguished Educator Award. Carl and his wife, Ginny, have three children and four grandchildren.
